PUNT E MES
Italy's classic aperitif
One part vermouth, a half part bitter (Punt e Mes) — the original player in the global aperitif trend.

Punt e Mes owes its existence to a happy coincidence. In 1870, a stock trader visiting the Bottega Carano ordered a vermouth with a half portion bitter, calling it "Punt e Mes" ('one and a half points'). His order was soon widely imitated and regular customers began giving the waiter their order by simply raising their thumb (a Punt) and then drawing a horizontal line in the air (Mes). Punt e Mes is today considered a marvelous example of the balance between seductive, sweet citrus aromas and bitter spicy notes. Decorated with an orange peel, it is Italy's classic aperitif and also makes the perfect base for many cocktails.
