Metaxa

The soul of Greece

In 1888, silk merchant Spyros Metaxa envisioned a recipe for a distilled spirit that was both powerful and smooth, and far different from the acerbic yet scentless distillates of his time.

He built his first distillery in Piräus, the port for Athens, and soon began exporting bottles of his products through the entire Mediterranean. 130 years later, Konstantinos Raptis is the current master blender — just the fifth person to hold that title since the company's founding. He chooses the finest wine distillates and blends them with selected Muscat wines from the sun-drenched isle of Samos: the mix is then enhanced with a secret bouquet of Mediterranean herbs and delicately scented rose pedals. This special mix is what prevents Metaxa from being called a brandy — a price well worth paying for such a unique distilled experience.
